A 17-year-old basketball player dies suddenly at home due to “Medical Condition”.


The Campbell County Coroner confirmed that a Gillette, Wyoming high school basketball player died suddenly two weeks back.

Max Sorenson, 17, died suddenly of a “medical event” at his home on Monday, December 26.

Paul Wallem, Campbell County coroner, informed the Cowboy State Daily, December 29, that the high school basketball star had been taken to the Campbell County Memorial Hospital Gillette after a medical emergency at his home.

Wallem died later.

Wallem says he does not consider the death a suicide, murder, or overdose.

Wallem stated that Sorenson was suffering from abdominal peritonitis. It is an infection in the abdominal lining.

“We are assuming it’s (from) an injury related to a sporting event,” said Wallem. “But the forensic pathologist in Rapid City had a few more tests to do and I haven’t heard back from him yet.”

The cause of Wallem’s peritonitis is unknown, although he speculates that it stems from some kind of sports-related injury.
