2 cops, 6 civilians hurt in fiery NYPD car crash on Staten Island

Two cops and at least six people were injured in a fiery crash involving an NYPD cruiser on Staten Island Saturday, according to police.

The police car smashed into two civilian vehicles near Hunton Street and Richmond Road around 7:20 p.m. before bursting into flames, police said.

Two police officers were taken to Staten Island Northwell Hospital — one with a dislocated arm and another with elbow pain — in stable condition.

At least six civilians suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital in stable condition, cops said.

Among the injured were four children ages 6, 8, 11 and 14, as well as a 34-year-old driver and a 36-year-old passenger.

A 53-year-old man was hurt after the cruiser struck an unoccupied white Toyota, cops said.

While initial reports indicated the NYPD officers were in pursuit of a vehicle when the wreck occurred, police said they are still investigating whether or not criminality was involved.

Additional details on the collision were not immediately available.

Photos from the scene show the front of the charred and mangled NYPD cruiser with its front end destroyed and its airbags deployed.
