San Francisco voters approved a tax on the owners of vacant housing units. Beginning Jan. 1, 2024 landlords who have three or more units that were vacant for 182 days during a tax year will be subject to a tax of between $2,500 and $5,000. If the units are not occupied, this tax would rise to $20,000 over time. Duplexes and single-family houses will be exempted from the tax.
