After authorities discovered that they had been caught on videotape and audiotape abusing a student with special needs, a Nebraska City High School teacher was charged along with two paraeducators. Melissa Valenta, teacher of Nebraska City High School has been charged as felony with child abuse. Emily Kent, Deborah Stidd and their aides were also charged with misdemeanors with child abuse. Officials stated that the three had hit the student with dodgeballs and made him sit in soiled pants for long periods. They also made him climb stairs and mop floors.
