Two volunteers were campaigning to elect a Texas Republican governor. Greg Abbott and his friend were attacked by a man on Saturday, according to reports.
An unidentified man chased the volunteers in a nearby neighborhood before trying to drag them out their car. The man allegedly struck both sides of the mirrors, before police arrived to respond.
A statement from Texans For Greg Abbott states that police took the suspect into custody, and he was charged with criminal mischief.
“Political violence is never acceptable. There are just over a month before Election Day. The passion for winning should not grow into something more dangerous. There is no place for this in Texas,” said Mark Miner, Abbott’s communications director.
Political violence is unacceptable. Just over a month remains before Election Day. This is why the desire to win should not become more dangerous.
This is not the Texas place.
